It was something he had looked forward to but still he was somewhat nervous in the beginning. We are talking here about Jerry Flamingo himself. His new show “Jerry Flamingo Stand Up Comedy Show” was just like the first time you try your hand on something you have never done before. And for Jerry, despite great support of the people who worked with him on the preparations, it was new indeed.
So on Saturday 17 October 2009 there he was in front of an audience of around 15 people, who were waiting eagerly to receive a whole array of funny jokes and anecdotes thrown to their heads from Jerry. Expectations were high and the general atmosphere very relaxed. It was a mix of Dutch and Thai people, completemented with a few other foreigners, who had received an invitation for Jerry’s trial show.
Reasons enough to have a great enjoyable evening since the buffet was free, laughs were added too(thanks to Jerry…), combined with the reasonably priced drinks.
He started off, much to enjoyment of his Dutch compatriots, into his native language and gave away some typical fun-loving narratives. Sayings such as “ik lig op apegapen” or “dat kan je wel op je buik schrijven” which gave his Dutch friends a little bit of a challenge in trying to explain this in English, or even Thai, since many just don’t have a specific equivalent translation. But having said that, Jerry was in full swing now, and the more the evening was progressing the more he actually started to enjoy it himself.
Nervousness was gone and that only got better when he decided it was time for the next chapter in his comedy act, bursting out some of the songs, which were written specially for the show and TV series. Our spectators were pleasantly surprised by the fact that he sang it with great emotion and from the heart, something that was not expected by many.
When that part was finally over, and his singing voice could not bear it any longer, Jerry switched to English where he invited others to join in by focusing on the subject of differences and similarities between “East and West” with questions like “Which one is better?” to be judged and answered.
Jerry’s show was not complete though if he did not show his great passion for motorbikes in an also comical but straightforward manner.
All in all a successful trial debut of a new talent in comedy!
